Between

11pm on Bank Holiday Monday, 30 August 2010, and 2.15am the following day,

Tuesday, 31 August 2010, offenders started a fire in one the warehouses

containing waste at the Horwich Recycling Centre on Chorley New Road.

The

fire took hold in the large warehouse and remains ablaze.

A

number of road closures were put in place, including Chorley New Road between

Ramsbottom Road and Victoria Road, while emergency services deal with the

scene.

These

closures remain in place so motorists are advised to avoid the area if

possible.

Detective

Constable Wayne Hagan, of Bolton CID, said: "This fire is being treated as

malicious and we are keen for anyone with information to get in touch.

"It

has caused a lot of disruption locally and caused massive inconvenience for

residents and the firm itself.

"I

want to reassure the community that we are doing all we can to catch the

perpetrators."

Anyone

with information is asked to call Bolton CID on 0161 856 2161 or independent

charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
